Severe Traffic Incident on the Motorway Near Oberhausen - Male Sustains Critical Injuries - Emergency Services Deployed Including Accident Response Team and Rescue Helicopter

On Friday, September 13, 2024, at 6:05 AM, an unfortunate incident occurred on the A3 highway heading towards Cologne. The accident involved four vehicles, resulting in injuries to five individuals.

The incident began when a Dutchman, driving in the rightmost lane of three, had to brake sharply near the Oberhausen-Holten interchange due to road conditions. This sudden braking caused a chain reaction that resulted in a collision.

A 55-year-old driver from Borken, driving behind the Dutchman, reacted too late and swerved left into the middle lane, colliding with a small truck. The small truck was thrown towards the median barrier and became trapped there.

The impact of the collision was severe, and the passenger of the small truck suffered life-threatening injuries. Three other participants in the accident sustained minor injuries.

Unfortunately, the accident also involved a truck driven by a 57-year-old man from Selm. The exact sequence of events is currently under investigation by the traffic accident investigation team from DΓΌsseldorf. Specialists from this team are on site to determine the exact sequence of events.

Due to the accident, the A3 highway is expected to remain closed for the accident investigation until midday. Ongoing congestion is anticipated due to the closed highway, and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

Despite efforts to land a rescue helicopter at the scene, it was unable to do so due to the nature of the accident. Emergency services are working diligently to manage the situation and provide necessary assistance.
