Severe weather alert in the south's distant regions: thunderstorms and heavy downpours imminent
On the horizon, Germany is bracing for a mix of calm and rainy conditions, as a deep low pressure system hovers over western France. The German Weather Service (DWD), based in Offenbach, has provided the following forecast.
On Thursday, most of the rain will move to southern Bavaria, with heavy rainfall expected at the Alps during the day. This moist air, brought in by the low pressure system, will also affect parts of southwestern and southern Germany. The rain in southern Bavaria is expected to gradually ease off in the night to Friday.
The southernmost part of Germany is expecting rain today and tomorrow. In the rest of the country, there will be partly clear skies, with isolated short showers near the coast on Thursday.
On Friday, heavy rain and thunderstorms with local severe showers are expected mainly in southwestern Germany, particularly in regions of Bavaria such as Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Weilheim-Schongau, Cham, Passau, Freyung-Grafenau, Traunstein, Rosenheim, Munich (county), Miesbach, Regen, and Berchtesgadener Land. Berlin will experience rain during the day, but less severe compared to the southwest. In the rest of the country on Friday, it will be generally cloudy, but there may also be some clearings or sunny moments.
Isolated strong thunderstorms are expected in Germany on Wednesday, while on Saturday, the sky will be variable, with occasional showers and local short thunderstorms, especially in the northeast. Local thunderstorms are likely in southern Germany, which could lead to flooding and overflowing of streams and smaller rivers. In the southwest on Saturday, there will be longer clearings and it will stay dry.
Meteorologist Tobias Reinartz at the German Weather Service (DWD) predicts that temperatures will gradually rise again next week, offering some respite from the rain and thunderstorms. As always, it's advisable to stay updated with the latest forecasts and take necessary precautions during inclement weather.
