Shock exit for Luke Littler at the Czech Darts Open, just hours following adverse weather conditions at the competition
In a closely contested match, promising Dutch player Gian van Veen defeated Luke Littler in the third round of the Czech Darts Open. The match was nip and tuck all the way, with both players breaking each other's throw twice in the early stages.
Luke Littler started the match strongly, scoring a 140, 123, and 180. However, he missed crucial opportunities, which allowed Van Veen to capitalise and progress to the quarter-finals. The key moment in the match came when Van Veen broke Littler's throw in the eighth leg with a 76 and tops finish.
Littler, aged 18, had been on a impressive run, winning five games in a row on a big TV stage, including the World Matchplay, World Series events in Australia and New Zealand, and the Flanders Trophy in Belgium. But his run was ended by Van Veen, who won the match 6-4.
Van Veen was happy with the win, describing the first leg of the match as "rubbish". He went on to dub Littler a "beast" when it gets to the pressure moments, but praised Littler for his strong start.
In the quarter-finals, Van Veen will face Gerwyn Price. Littler, on the other hand, will have to regroup and look to bounce back in his next tournament. Despite the loss, his impressive run on the big stage has certainly caught the attention of darts fans worldwide.
