The first shooting occurred on August 21, at a gas station on Whittier Boulevard, where 13-year-old Saith Toledo Mendez was fatally shot. A man, whose identity remains undisclosed, was also killed in the same incident at a Shell station near Washington and Passons Boulevards.
Exactly two days later, on August 23, another tragedy struck at a different gas station in Pico Rivera, claiming the life of another 13-year-old boy, Saith Mendez. Marc Sweet, a 36-year-old man, was the victim in this heartbreaking incident.
Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are reviewing surveillance footage and searching for suspects in both cases. However, no arrests have been made, and investigators have not linked the two incidents.
