Six decades of the Saarwellingen Youth Fire Department's triumphant journey
In the picturesque town of Saarwellingen, a special event took place on June 28, 2025, as the local youth fire brigade celebrated its 60th anniversary. The performance march, attended by over 120 participants from the entire Saarlouis district, was a testament to the enduring spirit of the brigade and its commitment to serving the community.
The day began with the young participants mastering six challenging stations, demonstrating their skills in throwing linen bags, hose relay, boat rescue, water transport, and a firefighting quiz. Their dedication and hard work were evident as they showcased their abilities with precision and confidence.
The honorees of the day, who joined the Saarwellingen youth fire brigade as teenagers in 1965, were acknowledged for their decades of service. The three founding members, Hans-Josef Jochem, Herbert Schleich, and Reinhold Weisgerber, received a special tribute for their unwavering commitment to the brigade.
The ceremony was overseen by Sina Stadler and Lucas Loreng, with Gerhard Sauer, vice-president of the state fire brigade association, presenting the honorees with a certificate, an honorary badge, and a special firefighting sculpture.
The occasion was also an opportunity to recognise and thank the support of local businesses such as Ludwig Chocolate, Abenteuerland Saar, and the Becker Group. The youth commissioners of the Schwarzenholz and Reisbach districts and their teams were also commended for their commitment and organisation.
In his speech, Mayor Dr. Horst Brünnet highlighted the importance of youth work, stating that it is the crucial foundation for building an operational active fire brigade. He praised the Saarwellingen youth fire brigade for its 60 years of successful youth work and expressed confidence in a strong future for the organisation.
The day culminated with the announcement of the competition results. Group Bous 2 took first place, Überherrn 2 came in second, and Wallerfangen 3 secured third place. All 22 groups received a participation certificate and a trophy, a fitting recognition of their efforts and achievements.
As the day drew to a close, the Saarwellingen youth fire brigade looked back on its 60 years with pride and looked forward to a future filled with continued service and success. With the support of the community and local businesses, and the dedication of its members, the brigade is well-positioned to make a difference in the lives of the people of Saarwellingen for many years to come.
The name of the youngest president of the regional fire brigade association who participated in the award ceremony for the founding members of the Saarwellingen youth fire brigade is not provided in the available search results. However, his presence served as a reminder of the next generation of leaders who will carry on the legacy of the Saarwellingen youth fire brigade.
