Slate plans to reconfigure its manufacturing plant in Indiana, anticipating the creation of 2,000 new job positions

Slate, the American startup that made waves with its flagship electric vehicle (EV) model, has chosen Indiana as the location for its production facilities. The company recently opened the doors to an existing facility in Kosciusko County, about an hour Northwest of Fort Wayne, which will be repurposed for the manufacturing of BEVs in 2026.

The startup began its "Demo Day" in Warsaw, Indiana, home to Slate's first manufacturing facility. Slate initially gained attention after launching its website in March and revealing its flagship model a month later. The company's flagship model features a unique "Blank Slate" design, offering an all-electric pickup with over 100 accessories and a five-seat SUV configuration kit.

The immediate focus is on retooling the Warsaw plant to gear up for BEV production next year. Slate aims to achieve series production and roll its first customer-built EVs off the assembly line by Q4 2026. The startup has already secured 100,000 reservations for its flagship BEV, although only a fraction of these are expected to materialize if and when Slate reaches production.

Despite the increased price due to the Trump administration nixing many US tax incentives, an all-electric pickup starting under $30,000 should still attract many American consumers. Slate expects to create over 2,000 new jobs and contribute $39 billion to the local economy over the next 20 years.

It's worth noting that the search results did not provide information on who will occupy the 2,000 new jobs in Slate's Warsaw factory. The facility, a former printing plant, will be refurbished for Slate's production needs. Slate plans to bring its Slate EV to the public by the end of next year.

As Slate moves forward with its production plans, it's exciting to see the potential impact this startup could have on the EV market, particularly with its focus on affordable, customizable electric vehicles. Stay tuned for more updates as Slate continues its journey towards series production.
