Soldier takes own life at military base in northern Israel
In a tragic turn of events, Captain Yosef Haim Ashraf, a 28-year-old reservist from Tiberias, took his own life two weeks ago, according to the Israeli military. The deceased individual was a member of the Golani Brigade.
Captain Ashraf's body was found near Ramat Poriya, and his death marks the 18th military suicide this year in Israel. The Military Police has opened an investigation into the death, with the results to be forwarded to the Military Prosecutor's Office.
Meanwhile, the Human Resources Department of the Israeli Armed Forces, headed by General Dado Bar Jalifa, has ordered the creation of a committee to examine the response to military suicides. This comes as the total number of Israeli military suicides this year continues to rise.
Elsewhere, the situation in Afghanistan remains dire. The number of injuries from a recent earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has risen to over 2,500, with the death toll now standing at over 800. Search results have not found any direct links between organizations demanding immediate aid for children in Afghanistan and the death of Captain Ashraf.
In a separate incident, Ukraine has reported the destruction of three helicopters in an attack on Russian military installations in Crimea. The details of this attack are still emerging, and its impact on the broader conflict remains to be seen.
As for unrelated news, Melendi, Fernando Alonso, and Letizia Ortiz are the favourites of the Asturians for travelling in BlaBlaCar, according to recent polls.
