The new system, effective immediately, eliminates the need for users to contact a support agent. Now, players can request refunds directly from their 'Transaction History' within the PlayStation app. This simplification makes the process no longer a battle of endurance for users, aligning it more closely with rival platforms such as Xbox, which also offers a self-service refund system.

The improvement of the PlayStation Store refund process is a response to digital sales dominating and games becoming more expensive. Sony's pledge to improve the overall PlayStation Store experience is a strategic move to maintain its position in the marketplace.

Many gamers have long sought for Sony to loosen its refund rules, especially with buggy launches becoming more common. The new system directly connects players with a sense that Sony is addressing their concerns.

The rules for PlayStation refunds remain the same: refunds are available within 14 days of purchase and only if the game has not been downloaded or streamed. However, unlike some PC platforms, PlayStation still does not refund games that have been downloaded.
