South African filmmaker Quentin Krog discusses the highly anticipated movie titled Ander Mens
In the picturesque Cape, filmmaker Quentin Krog co-founded Firestorm Production, a small-scale production company where he worked on a diverse range of projects, from short films and documentaries to corporate videos and music videos. Now, Krog is set to release his latest creation, "Ander Mens", a film that promises to be a wild and wacky experience.
"Ander Mens" centres around Daniel Niemand (Bennie Fourie), an ordinary bookkeeper whose life is turned upside down by a series of misunderstandings. As Daniel goes through unnecessary trials to pull himself out of a boring life, the film offers action, dark humor, and thrill, making it a film that people can get lost in, laugh at, and get thrilled by all at the same time.
Quentin Krog, who began his career in filmmaking at the age of 19 while majoring in stage acting at the University of Stellenbosch, has a deep respect for actors and is open to their ideas and suggestions. This respect is evident in the writing process of "Ander Mens", where the actors' performances were considered, influencing moments and dialogue.
The characters in "Ander Mens" are normal, and it's their reactions to absurd and crazy situations that make for great comedy. Daniel is aided by Frank Redelinghuys (Frank Opperman), a crime boss, and is pursued by Johannes Ackermann (James Borthwick), a policeman who uses Daniel as bait in an attempt to capture Frank and his brother Hansie (AndreΜ Weideman). Erica Kruger (Marlee van der Merwe), tasked with surveillance of Daniel, harbors dark secrets of her own.
The idea for "Ander Mens" was pitched to Krog by Herman Binge at the 2016 Silwerskermfees, and Krog was immediately intrigued by the concept. Krog has already made a name for himself in the industry, having directed the first season of Die Boekklub and Highrollers for television, as well as the films Ballade vir 'n Enkeling, Vir die VoeΜls and Thys & Trix.
Krog hopes that audience members will feel entertained, happy, and that the film will add something positive to their lives. He emphasizes the importance of seizing opportunities to better oneself, as portrayed in the film by Daniel's character. The film contains the important message that the world crushes those who don't embrace the opportunity to adapt and that you should not wait for your life to fall apart before you do something to better it.
With its engaging plot, dynamic characters, and Krog's signature style, "Ander Mens" is a film not to be missed. Get ready for a wild and wacky ride!
