South of Bavaria requires 250 rescue forces from the THW (Technical Relief Organization) due to the floods.
In the face of heavy rainfall threatening dikes and people in Bavaria, the Technical Relief Agency (THW) and Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe have joined forces to provide aid and support to flood victims.
The THW, a federally funded operational organization with around 88,000 volunteers nationwide, has deployed approximately 250 personnel in Bavaria to combat the flooding. Their efforts are diverse and far-reaching, encompassing rescue, care, and logistics support.
In the Ahr valley, THW teams are working in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Defense. They are operating SAR units, medical services, and a command support group with an emergency leadership vehicle. Air rescue is also being provided in the disaster area.
The Water Damage/Pumps specialist group is constructing water pipelines over longer distances to supply water, for example, for firefighting purposes. They also have submersible pumps with a capacity of 1,000 to 15,000 liters per minute, capable of pumping out water and mud from flooded basements, shelters, or traffic facilities.
Meanwhile, the THW Water Hazards specialist group is providing transportation and technical assistance on water, helping with dike security. Evacuation measures, securing dams with BigPacks and foil, and using high-performance pumps are among the actions being taken.
Four THW diving rescue units are available for underwater technical assistance, searching for persons or objects, and their recovery.
The THW's mobile high-water gauge in Donauwörth is in operation, measuring the water levels of the Danube and surrounding rivers.
THW local associations in Allgäu and Swabia regions, including Neu-Ulm, Memmingen, Lindau, Lindenberg, Sonthofen, Krumbach, Günzburg, and Kaufbeuren, are also deployed. Deployment locations include Lindau, Memmingen, Neu-Ulm, Fischbach, and Neuburg an der Donau.
Crisis centers are manned by THW specialists, who are analyzing the current situation and taking precautions to enable swift assistance.

The THW is also called upon by the federal government for tasks in civil protection, as well as for bilateral aid, EU civil protection, and UN organization missions. Their efforts in Bavaria serve as a testament to their commitment to helping those in need during times of crisis.
