Spine surgeries utilizing advanced technology to be offered in Kamchatka
Modern Neurosurgery Unit Opens in Kamchatka Regional Hospital
In a significant development for healthcare in Kamchatka Krai, the newly built Kamchatka Regional Hospital in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is now equipped with a state-of-the-art neurourgical department. This department, headed by neurosurgeon Alexander Khani, is designed to perform high-tech spinal surgeries, thanks to the advanced equipment installed.
Construction of the new hospital began in June 2021, following more than three years of inactivity on the incomplete construction site. The neurourgical department, a key component of the facility, is now ready to serve patients.
The operating room in this department is a sterile environment, complete with numerous devices to maintain sterility. It is also completely isolated from the outside world, ensuring the highest level of safety for patients undergoing surgery.
The department is equipped with specialized equipment for precise surgeries on the brain and spine. This includes a neuronavigation system for brain mapping, a portable ultrasound, an ultrasound disintegrator to minimize damage to nerve cells when removing tumors, and a portable X-ray machine. An optical X-ray converter is also available, ensuring that surgeries can be carried out according to the latest medical care standards.
The new equipment eliminates the need for patients to travel outside the region for specialized medical care. This is a significant improvement, as surgeries that were previously only performed in Moscow and St. Petersburg can now be done in Kamchatka-Krai.
By 2025, the new Kamchatka Regional Hospital will house multiple departments, including the neurourgical department. Other departments include surgical, otolaryngology, urology center, trauma and orthopedics, maxillofacial surgery, anesthesiology and intensive care, hemodialysis and blood gravity surgery, radiology and functional diagnostics, and clinical diagnostic laboratory departments.
The construction of the new hospital is part of the "People's Program for the Development of Kamchatka Krai." This initiative aims to improve the quality of life for residents of Kamchatka Krai by providing modern healthcare facilities and services.
With the opening of the neurourgical department, patients in Kamchatka Krai can now access advanced medical care closer to home, making healthcare more accessible and convenient.
