Audi Unveils Exciting New Lineup: RS 5 Avant, A4 EV, and More

Audi is gearing up for an electrifying future, with several new models set to debut in the coming months. Here's a rundown of the key developments in Audi's exciting new lineup.

The RS 5 Avant: A Powerful Return

The much-anticipated RS 5 Avant has been spotted testing on Germany's Nürburgring racetrack. The prototype, easily distinguishable by its large intakes, wide fenders, huge brake rotors, and signature exhaust tips, indicates a high-performance vehicle. The latest video suggests a V-6 engine in the hybrid setup, potentially the twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V-6 found in the current RS 5. The new RS 5 is expected to have substantially more power than the current model, aiming to challenge the 671 hp of the Mercedes-Benz AMG C 63 S E Performance.

Audi's New Naming Strategy

Audi has announced a new naming strategy for its models. Models with internal-combustion engines will bear an odd number in their names, while electric models will carry an even number. This strategy will be evident in the next A4, which will be an electric vehicle, and the new RS 5, expected to debut late this year as a 2027 model for the U.S.

The A5 Generation: Diversifying Body Styles

The new A5 generation, due this spring or summer for the 2026 model year, will feature a liftback and a new wagon body style in most markets. China will also get a new sedan body style for the A5. However, the regular A5 wagon has already been ruled out for the U.S. market.

High-Performance Versions and Electric Models

High-performance RS 5 versions of both the liftback and wagon are planned. The liftback version is almost certain for the U.S. market, but the wagon is still undecided. Audi currently sells the RS 6 Avant in the U.S., but it will be discontinued in 2025. To fill the gap, an electric RS 6 Avant E-Tron and a plug-in hybrid RS 7 Avant will be introduced. It's unclear whether both these models will be offered in the U.S. market.

The RS 5 Avant: Replacing the RS 4 Avant

The new RS 5 Avant will replace the current RS 4 Avant sold overseas. The new model is expected to be offered with a 2.9-liter V6 biturbo hybrid engine, although no full electric RS 5 Avant has been confirmed and conventional pure combustion engines are still possible given Audi’s broader electrification plans.

Prototypes in Testing

Prototypes for the liftback are also out testing, indicating that the new A5 generation is well on its way. The RS 5 prototype, recently spotted on the Nürburgring, features a plug-in hybrid powertrain, as indicated by the presence of a fuel filler cap and a charging port.

As Audi continues to push the boundaries of automotive technology, we eagerly await the official debut of these exciting new models. Stay tuned for more updates!
