SRAM Introduces Restricted Release of 1987 Transmission Groupset, Celebrating the Company's 38th Anniversary

SRAM, the renowned bicycle component manufacturer, has announced the release of their latest limited edition collection – the SRAM 1987 Collection. This exclusive range, priced at £3,399, is a celebration of SRAM's 38 years in the bike industry and offers a unique blend of contemporary technology and nostalgic charm.

The SRAM 1987 Collection is a limited edition run, with only 1987 groupsets being made. Each groupset is individually numbered and produced in a limited run of 1987, making it a sought-after collectible for avid cyclists.

The collection features a mix of XX SL and X0 components, including a lightweight T-Type XX SL cassette with X-Sync teeth and a 10-52T range. The power meter crankset is inspired by the X0 aluminium model and offers dual-sided power readings, available in 170mm length with both 34t and 32t chainrings included.

The SRAM 1987 Collection is primarily aimed at XC/down-country bikes and includes several accessories like 2 AXS batteries, a 4-battery charger, and a threaded chainring removal tool. The collection also boasts the AXS derailleur, which combines the XX derailleur cage and the body of the XX SL derailleur, providing smooth and efficient shifting.

One of the standout features of the SRAM 1987 Collection is the inclusion of flattop chains with SRAM founder, Stan Day's handwriting. These chains, along with other components, bear the signature of the man who started it all, adding a personal touch to this limited edition collection.

The power meter crankset in the SRAM 1987 Collection is SRAM's most accurate and integrated power meter, offering dual-sided power readings for precise data analysis. The collection is available in an exclusive silver finish, giving it a classic and timeless appeal.

Interestingly, the 1987 SRAM collection was not originally intended for the bike industry. It was released to provide faster and more power-efficient static RAM solutions during a period when semiconductor companies, including Intel, were transitioning focus from DRAM to other technologies amid increasing competition and evolving computer hardware demands. However, SRAM saw potential in repurposing these components for the bike industry, resulting in the creation of the SRAM 1987 Collection.

The SRAM 1987 Collection is available for purchase from SRAM dealers now. With its limited production run and unique combination of T-Type ecosystem components, this collection is sure to be a hit among cycling enthusiasts.
