Stabbing Incident on Gold Coast Leaves Uber Driver in Critical Condition, Adolescent Arrested
In a shocking turn of events, a 16-year-old boy from Upper Coomera has been charged with multiple offenses following an incident at a Gold Coast shopping center.
The incident, which occurred early in the day, took place at the car park of the Foxwell Rd shopping centre. The victim, a 32-year-old woman, was discovered semi-conscious in her vehicle with stab wounds to her head, neck, and back. She was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital and remains in critical condition.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly booked a ride with an Uber driver and traveled from Hope Island to Coomera before the incident. The motive for the attack and the reason for the trip ending at the shopping centre in the early hours of the morning remain unclear.
The victim was left in the car park for approximately one to two hours before being discovered by a security guard. A dog squad was seen combing the area during the search, while Uber and shopping centre management are assisting the investigation.
Police conducted a search at the Foxwell Rd shopping centre, cordoning off a part of the area. The charges stem from an incident where the rideshare driver was stabbed repeatedly.
The 16-year-old boy has been charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, armed robbery, and deprivation of liberty. He is scheduled to appear in Southport Children's Court tomorrow.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage of Foxwell Rd between 11pm and midnight is asked to contact the police. The person who accompanied the Uber driver and stayed at Foxwell Rd around midnight is not identified.
The investigation into the incident is being led by Detective Inspector Paul Fletcher. The community is urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
