The construction of the new Adenauer Bridge between Ulm and Neu-Ulm is progressing, with the first steel beams installed overnight on Saturday. This heavy task, both for technology and technicians, was carried out with precision and efficiency, despite the challenges presented by limited space and ongoing traffic on the bridge.

Two massive cranes, a 750-ton and a 500-ton crane, were employed to lift the 80-ton, 28-meter-long steel beams, which are simply gigantic. The steel beams were transported from the Upper Palatinate to the existing old bridge.

The installation process was a meticulous operation, with the construction crew planning to install the next large steel beam with millimeter precision on Sunday night. The night shift crew, consisting of 40 men, worked diligently to ensure the success of the operation.

Train traffic between Ulm and Erbach in the Alb-Donau district was suspended during the work, but has now resumed. Car traffic was hardly affected, thanks to the careful planning and execution of the operation. Replacement buses ran from Ulm to Laupheim and Biberach from 9 pm to 6 am to accommodate any disruptions to regular transport.

The new Adenauer Bridge construction is a significant project, with almost 100,000 vehicles passing daily. The construction company responsible for the project is Leonhard Weiss GmbH & Co. KG. Niklas Rall, the project manager of the construction company Max BΓΆgl, is overseeing the construction work, which is expected to continue for another three and a half years.

A temporary bridge made of red steel beams has been set up on the other side of the Adenauer Bridge. The Danube cycle path and the old pedestrian and cycle bridge have been closed during the construction work.

The "generational change" from the old to the new Adenauer Bridge will take place in several steps. The new bridge, once completed, will provide a modern and efficient transport solution for the region, improving connectivity and promoting economic growth.
