Steeling for a surge in manufacturing output, Hòa Phát prepares for a new production record.
In the first half of 2025, Vietnam's largest steel producer, Hoà Phát Group, has achieved a significant milestone by producing 5.1 million tonnes of crude steel, marking a 17% year-on-year increase. This surge in production, according to the company, will ensure a steady supply of high-quality products such as hot-rolled coil (HRC), construction steel, and other premium-grade steel for the domestic market.
The increase in production capacity is primarily attributed to the full operation of both blast furnaces at the Dung Quất complex, which has seen its output climb sharply to an average of 30,000 tonnes per day. The Dung Quất 2 complex, a key component of this expansion, is focusing on producing premium-grade HRC for sectors like automotive, shipbuilding, petrochemicals, home appliances, and energy.
The surge in production follows the commissioning of blast furnaces No 1 and No 2 at the Dung Quất 2 project between the second and third quarters of 2021. This expansion is not a one-time event, but rather a sustained increase aimed for the fourth quarter of 2025, when Hoà Phát Group aims to increase its daily crude steel output to 40,000 tonnes.
From 2026, Hoà Phát's total annual production capacity is expected to hit 16 million tonnes, with 9 million tonnes earmarked for HRC and other high-quality steel. The production process involves converting iron ore into molten iron, followed by refining in oxygen converters and casting into square billets or slabs for different products.
The Hoà Phát Group's production increase is not limited to the Dung Quất complex. Contributions also come from the Hải Dương complex and the Hùng Yên steel plant. In August 2025, approximately 75% of the crude steel production came from the Hoà Phát Dung Quất iron and steel complex, while the remaining 25% came from the Hải Dương complex and the Hùng Yên steel plant.
The increased production has resulted in impressive sales figures. In August 2025 alone, sales of HRC, construction steel, high-quality steel, and billets reached five million tonnes, marking a 23% rise, with HRC alone surging 42%. Hoà Phát Group produced 953,000 tonnes of crude steel in August 2025, which is approximately 31,800 tonnes per day.
As the largest steel producer in Southeast Asia and ranking among the world's top 30 steelmakers, Hoà Phát Group's production increase not only secures a steady supply for the domestic market but also strengthens its global competitiveness. The company's focus on quality and sustainability, coupled with its ambitious expansion plans, positions Hoà Phát as a key player in the global steel industry.
