Market Update: Fluctuating Prices in Bangladesh's Major Markets

In the bustling markets of Hatirpool, New Market, Lalbagh, and Azimpur, shoppers are noticing a shift in vegetable and other food item prices.

The price of okra remains steady at Tk80 per kg, while bitter gourd has seen a drop from Tk100 to Tk80. A positive change is also observed in pointed gourds and carrots, which have fallen from Tk80 to Tk60 per kg.

However, the search for information regarding the responsible parties behind the rising prices of fish, meat, and lentils in the country remains elusive.

Broiler chicken is currently priced at Tk180 per kg, with Sonali chicken and Pakistani chicken both reaching Tk320. The price of polao rice has risen to Tk125-Tk130 per kg.

Four eggs are being sold for Tk48, and red eggs have seen a decrease from Tk150 to Tk144 per dozen. Chinese cauliflower is available at Tk120 each, and cucumber prices have also dropped, down from Tk80 to Tk60 per kg.

Lemons are priced at Tk20 for four pieces, potatoes at Tk25 per kg, and tomatoes at Tk120 per kg. Chinese ginger now costs Tk160 per kg.

The prices of most fish, including Rui, Katla, and Hilsa, have gone up. Hybrid onions are priced at Tk75. Tomatoes, bitter gourd, carrots, cucumbers, and eggplants are all selling at lower rates than last week.

Bottle gourd and some other items have become slightly costlier. Local lentils have increased from Tk145 to Tk155 per kg, and white eggs are available at Tk145 per dozen.

Beef is being sold at Tk750 per kg. Locally produced onions are available at Tk80 per kg.

The prices of spices such as cumin, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, bay leaves, powdered chilli, and powdered turmeric remain stable. Mutton is being sold at Tk1,100.

Grass pea or khesari dal is selling for Tk110-Tk112 per kg. Soybean oil has risen from Tk180 to Tk185-Tk190 per litre. Chickpeas have increased from Tk100 to Tk110. Chinese garlic is selling at Tk130 per kg, and the price of dried chillies has risen by Tk20 per kg.
