Streaming service CBS All Access introduces parental control features to compete with Disney+.
CBS All Access has announced a significant expansion of its children's programming, aiming to cater to families ahead of the launch of Paramount+ next year.
Rob Gelick, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Streaming Services and Chief Product Officer, ViacomCBS Streaming, revealed that more popular kids hits from Nick Jr. and Nickelodeon are coming to the service. This expansion has already resulted in a significant growth in viewership, as parents on CBS All Access can now further customise what programming is available to their kids.
With the addition of features like 'Kids Mode' and multiple profiles, CBS All Access is creating customised experiences for each household member. Each profile can be managed by parents using "Kids Mode" to filter content by ratings. All kids' programming on the service will be streamed ad-free, providing a safe and enjoyable viewing experience for children.
The service is expanding its family-friendly portfolio with 800 additional episodes from children's series like Blue's Clues and Dora the Explorer. Subscribers on CBS All Access now have more opportunities to discover and watch family programming together. Up to six profiles per account can be created, ensuring that every household member has a personalised viewing experience.
ViacomCBS is not only competing with Netflix, but also with family-focused streaming giants like Disney+. To stand out, the platform is also planning to offer a variety of content for its adult audiences, including a Spongebob Squarepants spinoff and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.
The announced launch date for Paramount+ in German-speaking territories is September 18, 2025, coinciding with the availability of the German series "Parallel Me" on the platform. However, in the meantime, CBS All Access is already gearing up to provide a more family-friendly experience for its subscribers.
The platform's existing PIN feature will continue to limit access to content parents may not want their kids watching, providing an extra layer of security. Gelick stated that the new features are designed to provide additional peace of mind for parents.
In summary, CBS All Access is making strides to become a go-to destination for families, offering a wide range of children's programming and features designed with parents in mind. With the launch of Paramount+ on the horizon, it seems that ViacomCBS is positioning itself to attract day-one signups by appealing to families.
