"Street named Exter and Street with a Curve" or "Curves on Exter Street and Another Street"
In the vibrant city of Detmold, exciting changes are on the horizon. The Mode and Sport House Klingemann from Höxter, along with the RoofTop Bar at the Hornsches Tor, have developed a new attraction magnet that is set to redefine the city's landscape.
Meanwhile, the Institute for Retail Research Cologne (IFH) recently presented Europe's largest downtown study at the annual meeting of the Retail Association OWL. The study underscores the significance of multifunctional thinking and action in downtown development.
Mayor Frank Hilker has outlined the sequence of steps in the downtown development of Exterstraße/Krumme Straße. He stresses that sufficient replacement parking spaces in the downtown area and a parking guidance system must be created before the building measures and the renovation of the upper section of Lange Straße can be coordinated.
The timeline for the construction of the new parking garage at the Hornsches Tor and the possible parking deck in the new town is expected to be in 2029 at the earliest. However, no decisions have been made yet on how to deal with the current approximately 50 resident parkers and the likely unnecessary parking traffic in Exterstraße/Krumme Straße after the construction of these facilities.
The mayor finds it incomprehensible to consider the topic of Exterstraße/Krumme Straße in isolation, as a faction of the Detmold city council recently did. He plans to move the jointly established free short-term parking spaces by the advertising community to Exterstraße/Krumme Straße in the next step.
The chairman of the advertising community, Christian Schmidt, emphasizes the importance of maintaining the 30-minute parking zone in the best location. He also suggests establishing the first city-wide pick-up and drop-off zone for mobility-restricted persons in Exterstraße/Krumme Straße.
The assessment of the downtown experts of the IFH in Cologne is being taken into account in the expectations of the mayor and the chairman of the advertising community. They are expecting many developments in the downtown area of Exterstraße/Krumme Straße, which are currently not foreseeable.
It's an exciting time for Detmold as these developments promise to breathe new life into the city centre. Stay tuned for more updates on these transformative projects.
