Struggles for Starmer and Reeves as Their Popularity Wanes, Even Beneath Trump's

In the dynamic world of British politics, approval ratings are a barometer of public sentiment. Here's a rundown of the current landscape, as revealed by recent polling data.

Keir Starmer, the Labour Party leader, is facing a significant challenge, with his approval rating standing at around 20%. This represents a drop from about one-third in the previous year, making it the lowest of all UK figures tested by Freshwater Strategy. Prime Minister Starmer's rating is currently -37, a stark contrast to the favourable views held by the British public towards other figures.

Interestingly, Brits' view of Donald Trump has seen a rise over the past month, with his approval rating increasing by nine points. However, more than 57% of UK citizens still hold an unfavourable view of Trump, according to the City AM/Freshwater survey.

Elon Musk, the tech mogul, has also experienced a dip in his approval rating among UK voters, decreasing by two points. This could be due to some of his more extreme rhetoric. Nevertheless, 20% of UK respondents still voiced support for Musk, while only 26% expressed a favourable view of Trump.

The UK's first Labour Chancellor in over a decade has seen a significant drop in approval since her maiden tax-raising Budget last autumn. Despite some political commentators predicting a sympathy boost for the Labour Chancellor after she became emotional in the House of Commons, this has not occurred. Her current approval rating hovers around -36.

Surprisingly, UK voters have a favourable view of Nigel Farage and his party, Reform UK. This makes Reform UK the only party of which they have a positive opinion. In fact, the party formed out of the ashes of Nigel Farage's Brexit Party is currently the most popular among UK's main political figures and organizations, with a net approval rating of plus three points.

Interestingly, Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves are currently less popular than Donald Trump among British voters. Farmers, however, are the most popular "notable figure" among UK respondents, followed closely by King Charles and Jeremy Clarkson.

The level of disapproval for Donald Trump and Elon Musk is eclipsed by the pair at the helm of British policymaking. This serves as a reminder of the high stakes and expectations that come with leading a nation. As the political landscape continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these approval ratings shift in the coming months.
