Struggles with young children missing a partner for comfort, who will eventually care for Teddy the pet dog?
In the quaint town of Altentreptow, a eleven-year-old Spitz named Teddy is searching for a new home. This surrendered dog, once owned by an elderly lady who passed away, is now under the care of the Altentreptow animal shelter.
Teddy is a house-trained Spitz, as confirmed by Silke Greier, the shelter's manager. This means he can comfortably live in an apartment setting. Spitzes, known for their vocal nature and strong bond with their homes, make for loyal companions.
Teddy's past breeding history is not publicly available, but his current behaviour is under close observation at the shelter. He has shown respectful distance and no aggressive behaviour when introduced to a female dog. However, his character still needs further exploration, especially in interactions with other dogs.
Interestingly, Teddy does not chase cats but does not get along well with male dogs. On the other hand, he has been confirmed to accept cats by Silke Greier. His interactions with children around the age of ten are peaceful, making him a potential candidate for families with older kids.
The Spitz breed is known for its luxurious fur, which provides resistance to weather influences. However, this fur requires regular grooming to keep Teddy looking his best. Spitzes also have a poorly developed hunting instinct, making them more suited to life as a pet rather than a working dog.
Despite being mistrustful of strangers and barking loudly, as is common among Spitzes, Teddy showed promising results in a test run at the shelter with another dog. This indicates that with the right environment and care, he could make a wonderful addition to the right family.
If you are interested in meeting Teddy, you can reach out to the Altentreptow animal shelter by phone at 03961 229 946 and 0152 531 052 12, or by email at [email protected].
