Struggling Recruitment in Piedmont Worsens: A -11% Decline in Hiring in September
Piedmont, a region in Northwest Italy, is gearing up for a significant shift in its workforce next September. According to recent data, the region is planning to hire 92,000 employees, accounting for 22.1% of the 160,100 hires expected in Northwest Italy.
Of these hires, a majority (77%) will be on temporary contracts, with only 23% being permanent or apprenticeship positions. This trend indicates a focus on flexibility in the workforce, with most of the hires (78.6%) being made up of new employees.
In terms of specific sectors, production and service areas are expected to absorb half of the entries, followed by logistics (12%), technical and design (14%), sales (15%), and the primary sector (approximately 1.56%). Interestingly, 23.7% of the positions require creative and innovative skills, suggesting a need for a dynamic workforce.
The hiring plans also highlight a skills gap higher than the national average. It is estimated that nearly half of the required positions (47.8%) will be difficult to fill, primarily due to a lack of suitable candidates (32.7%). This underscores the need for skills development and training programmes in the region.
Young people under 30 are set to represent a third of the hires, indicating a focus on youth employment. Other non-employee workers, such as collaborators and other non-employee personnel, will account for 4.1% and 1.9% of the hires, respectively. Temporary workers will make up 15.4% of the hires, while immigrant personnel will account for 23% of the hires in September 2024.
On a national scale, the estimated hires in September account for 6.2% of the 569,000 hires. However, the planned decrease in hires for the September-November quarter in Piedmont is 9,280 units, resulting in a net decrease of 35,350 employees compared to the same month in 2024.
It's worth noting that the search results do not provide information about companies in Piedmont that hired employees in September 2025 totaling fewer than 30,000. Despite this gap in information, the hiring trends for September 2024 paint a clear picture of the changes and challenges ahead in the region's workforce.
