"Stunning Return of Oberdorf Leads Bayern to Supercup Victory"
In a gripping encounter at the Women's Super Cup, FC Bayern Munich emerged victorious against VfL Wolfsburg, securing a 4-2 win.
The scoring was opened by Magdalena Eriksson, who unleashed a powerful shot from 17 meters into the top left corner in the 18th minute. Jovana Damnjanovic doubled Bayern's lead in the 25th minute, shaking off her marker and slamming the ball into the net.
England's European champion Georgia Stanway added the third goal for Bayern with a fantastic volley from the edge of the box in the 72nd minute. Stanway sealed the victory with a confidently taken penalty in the 78th minute.
Wolfsburg managed to find the back of the net twice, with Vivien Endemann and Janina Minge scoring for the home team. The first goal came after a mix-up between Bayern captain Sarah Zadrazil and Stanway in the box following a corner, allowing Minge to finish confidently. Justine Kielland was shown a yellow-red card during the match.
Unfortunately, Giulia Gwinn missed the Super Cup due to an internal band injury she sustained at the EM. Lena Oberdorf, another national team player, made her first competitive appearance after a 410-day injury layoff, helping Bayern secure the victory.
Oberdorf was instrumental in the match, winning a penalty and committing a foul on Wolfsburg striker Lineth Beerensteyn that led to a penalty for Wolfsburg. She described her comeback as "extremely beautiful" after the game. When asked about the controversial penalty she won, Oberdorf commented, "If you're held in the box, you can try."
New faces Klara Buhl and Pernille Harder were brought on by Bayern coach José Barcala after half-time. Only two new faces, goalkeeper Stina Johannes and left-back Janou Levels from Leverkusen, were in Wolfsburg's starting lineup.
Despite England's Stanway having the first chance in the 10th minute but failing to score against Wolfsburg goalkeeper Stina Johannes, Bayern held on to their lead and secured the Super Cup victory. Lena Oberdorf was pleased that no one at her former club Wolfsburg had forgotten her and that everyone was happy to see her back on the pitch. The match ended with a score of 4:2.
