"Stunning victory": Oberdorf's return shines in Bayern Supercup triumph
Bayern Munich Retains Women's Supercup with 4-2 Victory Over VfL Wolfsburg
In a thrilling encounter at the BBBank Wildpark stadium in Karlsruhe, Bayern Munich's women's team secured their second consecutive Supercup victory against last year's runners-up, VfL Wolfsburg. The match, played in front of 16,933 spectators, saw a mix of talented performances and tense moments.
Lena Oberdorf, a national player and Bayern's newest addition, made her comeback after a 410-day injury layoff. She returned to competitive action in her first game for the club, showcasing her skills and determination throughout the match.
Bayern Munich dominated most of the game, even without some of their stars. Magdalena Eriksson opened the scoring with a beautiful goal from outside the box, followed by Jovana Damnjanovic's powerful shot that doubled Bayern's lead before half-time. The second half saw a mix-up in the box between Bayern's captain Sarah Zadrazil and England's European champion Stanway, allowing Wolfsburg to score their first goal.
Lea SchΓΌller then added a fantastic volley to restore Bayern's two-goal advantage, before Georgia Stanway sealed the victory with a penalty. Vivien Endemann and Janina Minge scored for Wolfsburg in response, but it was not enough to prevent Bayern from retaining the Supercup.
Oberdorf was involved in both penalties during the game, winning one for Bayern and committing a foul that led to one for Wolfsburg. New coach JosΓ© Barcala brought on Oberdorf, Klara Buhl, and Pernille Harder in the second half, providing fresh impetus for the Bayern team.
Stina Johannes had a few shaky moments during the game for Wolfsburg, while Justine Kielland received a yellow-red card. Only two new players, goalkeeper Stina Johannes and left-back Janou Levels, started for VfL Wolfsburg.
England's European champion Stanway had the first chance in the 10th minute but missed from close range. Despite the missed opportunity, she played a crucial role in Bayern's victory, scoring the fourth goal from the penalty spot.
Giulia Gwinn, another key player for Bayern, missed the game due to an injury sustained at the Euros. Despite her absence, the team demonstrated their depth and resilience, securing a well-deserved victory and continuing their impressive form.
