In the heart of the Ruhr area, Kirchhellen is taking strides towards a greener future. The Vestisches Gymnasium's auditorium recently played host to an event introducing the "Prima. Klima. Ruhrmetropole" project, a state-supported initiative aimed at transforming Kirchhellen into a climate-neutral city by 2045.
Annika Lippke from the Klimaagentur Rhein-Ruhr took centre stage, presenting the free consulting services offered by the Sanierungsmanagement. These services are designed to help building owners make their homes more energy-efficient and suitable for the future.
Many attendees expressed a need for such assistance, with specific renovation projects discussed throughout the event. District Mayor Hendrik Dierichs encouraged building owners to take advantage of these services, emphasising the importance of energy efficiency in Kirchhellen's climate-appropriate urban transformation.
Buildings from the 1960s and 1970s in Kirchhellen, while structurally sound, often suffer from poor insulation. The Sanierungsmanagement offers assistance in preparing and planning renovation measures, providing insights into savings potential, funding programs, financing options, and process organisation.
Jens Watenphul, who runs the Sanierungsmanagement in Kirchhellen with his Klimaagentur Rhein-Ruhr, believes Kirchhellen has the potential to renovate five percent of its old buildings annually. With a high homeownership rate, this presents an opportunity to make a significant impact on the city's carbon footprint.
Further information events on specific topics like the use of heat pumps and the operation of solar systems are planned for the coming months. During these events, attendees can expect to learn more about various renovation options, including heat pumps, window renovation, heating installation, green roofs, and surface unsealing.
The Sanierungsmanagement also offers a telephone initial consultation from Monday to Friday, 9 am to 1 pm, under the number 02041/77394-15. For those seeking more personalised advice, on-site consultation appointments can be arranged, where potential savings for individual buildings are demonstrated using simulations.
Technical Deputy Mayor Klaus MΓΌller encourages private engagement in this climate-appropriate urban transformation, urging building owners to take the first step towards a greener Kirchhellen. The Sanierungsmanagement offers its services at the district administration office at Kirchhellener Ring on the first Thursday of each month, from 2 pm to 6 pm.
Kirchhellen is one of eight Ruhr area municipalities being supported by the state for its climate-appropriate transformation until 2029. As the city embarks on this journey, it invites all building owners to join in the effort and contribute to a greener, more sustainable future for Kirchhellen.
