Summer surge in electric vehicle (EV) chargings witnessed by Powerdot, reporting an 88% boost in usage
Powerdot, a leading independent operator of electric vehicle (EV) charging points in Europe, has reported a remarkable increase in the utilisation of its chargers this summer. The company, which specialises in destination charging, saw a 35% increase in the average utilisation of chargers compared to the previous year.
As of now, Powerdot operates over 8,065 charging points at 1,700 locations across six European markets. In Spain, the company has over 1,350 contracted charging points, of which more than 546 are operational across 79 locations.
The growth observed by Powerdot this summer has been driven by an increase in the travel of Spanish holidaymakers and a higher number of foreign users. According to data from Electromaps, the growth recorded by Powerdot surpassed the 75% growth recorded by the market average.
Laura Goncalves, Managing Director of Powerdot in Spain, stated that charges have more than doubled compared to July and August last year. "This growth in electric mobility reinforces our mission to provide a convenient and reliable charging experience for everyone," said Goncalves.
The increase was particularly significant in regions such as Cantabria, Catalonia, and the Community of Madrid, where charges doubled compared to other times of the year. EV charges on Powerdot's network in July and August increased by 88% compared to May and June.
Powerdot's motto is that charging an EV should be as convenient as charging a smartphone. The company offers a 100% turnkey solution, focusing on destination charging. Powerdot was founded in 2018 in Portugal and currently operates over 15,000 contracted charging points and 8,065 operational in the six European markets it operates.
The company plans to continue expanding its charging infrastructure in Spain, with an investment of 30 million euros by 2025. Powerdot also intends to reach over 3,000 locations by 2026 in countries such as Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Poland.
The growth in Powerdot's charging stations in Spain was not unique. The company "Ionity" reported a significant increase in the use of its charging stations for electric cars in Spain in summer 2024 and plans to spend 30 million euros by 2025 to expand its charging infrastructure in Spain.
The surge in electric vehicle sales also contributed to the growth. Sales of electric and plug-in vehicles in Spain grew by 39% in 2023. With the increasing adoption of electric vehicles and Powerdot's commitment to providing a convenient charging experience, the future of sustainable mobility in Europe looks promising.
