Surveillance Drones Investigated by BKA

The Bundeskriminalamt (BKA) has released a report highlighting the urgent threat posed by drones to German society and critical infrastructure. The report underscores the need for federal cooperation, clear responsibility assignments, and a reliable situation assessment to combat this growing concern.

According to the BKA report, hostile and aggressive actions related to drones are taking place daily in Germany. The openly aggressive behavior of authoritarian states, particularly Russia, poses a concrete threat to German security and society.

Konstantin von Notz, Deputy Parliamentary Leader, finds the report on spy drone threats to critical infrastructure in Germany highly alarming. He criticizes the Ministry of the Interior for its ineffective approach to combating drone threats, particularly since Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) has been responsible for security against drone attacks on critical infrastructure since 2025 in the federal government under Chancellor Merz.

The report also reveals a lack of a sufficiently concrete or up-to-date situation assessment regarding drone threats in Germany. It suggests that there is a need to create a legally sound way to prevent drone flights in Germany.

Von Notz urges the new federal government to understand the imminent danger posed by drones and take immediate action. He emphasizes the need for the government to reliably assess the situation, define federal cooperation, assign clear responsibilities, and create a legally sound way to prevent such drone flights.

The BKA report emphasizes the urgency of addressing the issue of drone threats in Germany, stating that no more time can be wasted. The threat posed by drones is not just to critical infrastructures, but to German society and democracy as a whole. The report only provides a partial view of the problem related to drone threats in Germany, indicating that a comprehensive approach is needed to ensure the safety and security of the German people.
