Survivors of the Holocaust Address Educational Institutions
In January 2023, the Lore-Lorentz School in Düsseldorf will be honoured to host Halina Birenbaum for the second time. The 90-year-old Auschwitz survivor, known for her unique approach to explaining the Holocaust, will be visiting the school.
Halina Birenbaum, a renowned educator, has spent the past 15 years accompanying students of the Lore-Lorentz School on their memorial trips to the former concentration and extermination camp. Her book, "Hope Dies Last", has been a constant companion during these trips.
Unlike many who choose to explain the Holocaust through numbers, data, and facts, Halina Birenbaum's method is distinct. She shares reports from both victims and perpetrators, offering a personal and poignant insight into the events of the Holocaust.
The event, scheduled for January 30th at the Kom(m)ödchen, is exclusive to students of the Lore-Lorentz School. Halina Birenbaum's journey from Haifa to Düsseldorf is set for this month.
Halina Birenbaum's book, "Hope Dies Last", is titled as such, reflecting her belief in the indomitable human spirit, even in the face of unimaginable adversity. The book, much like her approach to teaching, offers a unique perspective on the Holocaust, focusing not just on the horrors, but also on the stories of resilience and hope that emerged from the darkness.
The exact details of the event, such as the nature of Halina Birenbaum's presentation, have not been disclosed. However, given her past experiences and her book, it is expected to be a moving and enlightening event for all who attend.
This visit by Halina Birenbaum is a testament to the school's commitment to Holocaust education and remembrance. It provides a rare opportunity for students to learn from a survivor and a remarkable individual who has dedicated her life to ensuring that the stories of the Holocaust are never forgotten.
