Suspect Driver in Drunken Driving Incident Escapes Accident Scene in Biberach

In the city of Ulm, a 44-year-old driver found himself in hot water after an accident on Amriswilstraße. The incident occurred at the Waldorfschule bus stop, where the driver, behind the wheel of a Citroën, overlooked a pedestrian crossing aid.

Without applying the brakes, the driver drove over the crossing aid, causing significant damage. The crossing aid, a crucial safety feature, sustained an estimated 1,000 euros worth of damages. The force of the impact was so great that it also displaced the concrete base and tore out two traffic signs. The estimated damage to the Citroën was a hefty 2,000 euros.

A witness quickly alerted the police, and the license plate left at the scene helped identify the driver. When the police found the driver at his residence, he was clearly intoxicated. A breathalyzer test confirmed that he had two promille of alcohol in his system.

The driver admitted to the accident and was taken to a hospital for a blood test, with his driver's license confiscated. Police Biberach is now investigating charges of endangering traffic and hit-and-run.
