Suspect Held Temporarily Following Vehicle Collision Evasion in Hamburg-Stellingen, as Per Testimony of Onlooker
In a series of events that unfolded on August 24, 2025, a traffic accident took place in Hamburg-Stellingen, specifically at Hagenbeckallee, at 20:40. The incident involved a Ford Fiesta and a parked VW Golf, resulting in severe damage to both vehicles.
The driver of the Ford Fiesta, a 29-year-old man, was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, as a voluntary breath test showed a value of over 2.4 promille. During the accident, the man also sustained a slight head injury while attempting to flee the scene.
As the man attempted to escape, a 44-year-old resident intervened, preventing him from fleeing further and causing him to flee on foot. This quick action by the witness enabled the police to make a preliminary arrest before the suspect had to appear in court.
The man was temporarily detained and taken to a detention center for hospital treatment. The decision on the issuance of a detention order is still pending.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Traffic Direction City / West (VD 2). The exact reasons for the collision remain unknown at this time.
The injured 29-year-old man was transported to a hospital under the escort of a patrol car crew. After the hospital treatment, he was released on an outpatient basis.
In addition to the suspicion of driving under the influence, the man is also suspected of driving without a driver's license and of illegally staying in Germany.
The man will have to appear before a judge today. The further investigation, including a blood sample, is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and the legal status of the suspect.
