Suspect implicated in the Parubian murder makes initial declaration.
In a shocking turn of events, former Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Andrey Parubiy was shot dead in Lviv on August 30. According to reports from local news outlet Strana.ua, the assassin waited for Parubiy on the street, shot him multiple times, and then fled.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was briefed on the investigation by Ukraine's Prosecutor General Ruslan Riaboshapka. Zelensky described the murder as "well-planned." He also announced in his Telegram channel that further urgent investigative actions are being taken to establish all the circumstances of this murder.
The arrest of the suspected murderer was presumably ordered by the Ukrainian Ministry of Interior. The suspect has begun to give statements regarding the incident. Interestingly, Parubiy was previously found in Russia's wanted database.
Parubiy's party, European Solidarity, has blamed Russia and its "fifth column" for his murder. Sources told Strana.ua that the attack could also have internal political motives.
Zelensky wrote that he will provide updates on the investigation as more information becomes available. This announcement comes after Zelensky previously reported the arrest of a suspect in Parubiy's murder.
Tragically, Parubiy died before medical help arrived. The loss of such a prominent political figure has sent shockwaves throughout Ukraine and beyond. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
