Suspects apprehended for burglarizing jewelry; necklaces being the stolen goods

In the heart of Wolfsburg's city centre, two separate incidents of jewellery thefts have been reported, leaving local authorities scrambling to find the culprits.

On August 20, 2025, at around 16:30 and 19:45, a 61-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman respectively, found themselves victims of theft. The first incident occurred outside a travel agency on Porschestraße, where an unknown young man approached the two men, spoke a language they didn't understand, and snatched the 61-year-old's gold chain. The second incident took place at an ice cream parlor in the pedestrian zone, where a 34-year-old woman was violently robbed of her chains by a younger man.

The two men from Wolfsburg promptly went to file a police report and encountered a patrol that recorded the details and initiated a search for the suspects. A loud argument ensued between the suspect and the two men, and two unknown persons tried to help the suspect escape. The suspect dropped the gold chain and fled towards the City-Galerie, with the woman's husband and two passersby (aged 30 and 47) giving chase. The pursuit went past the cinema, over Kolpingstraße towards Rothenfelder Straße, but the suspect was lost from sight.

Investigations regarding both incidents are ongoing, and a breakthrough was made on the same day. A 20-year-old homeless man was provisionally arrested during the investigation, matching the description of the suspect from the first incident. The suspect was provisionally arrested at around 20:12, spent the night at the Wolfsburg police station, and was later released after the completion of police procedures.

It is worth noting that a similar incident occurred in Goethestraße last Saturday, and the arrested suspect matches the description of the suspect from the robbery last Saturday. The public prosecutor's office in Braunschweig did not apply for a remand order on Thursday.
