Swindlers posing as bank employees return, tricking customers out of their funds once more
In a recent development, Sparkasse Mülheim, a prominent bank in the city of Mülheim, is urgently appealing to relatives to make the elderly aware of a scam that has been targeting the city's elderly population.
A larger wave of this scam occurred in June, with the fraudsters posing as employees of Sparkasse Mülheim and reporting false debits from accounts. The scam always involves the fraudsters claiming to be from the bank and reporting false debits, and then asking for PINs to correct the alleged error.
The scam is not new, but the current wave in Mülheim has been particularly targeted at the elderly. The fraudsters may even attempt to visit victims' homes to obtain debit cards later.
Frank Linke, the spokesperson of Sparkasse Mülheim, has issued a statement warning its customers about this ongoing scam. He urges relatives to make the elderly aware not to give their PIN and/or card to strangers.
Sparkasse Mülheim is continuing to warn its customers about this scam, reminding them that the bank will never ask for their PIN or card details over the phone. The bank is also advising its customers to be vigilant and report any suspicious calls to the authorities.
The bank has also emphasised the importance of keeping personal and financial information secure, and to never share this information with anyone, even if they claim to be from the bank.
In light of this scam, it is crucial for everyone, especially the elderly, to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. Sparkasse Mülheim is committed to protecting its customers and ensuring their financial security.
