In a recent development, the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt has initiated proceedings against nine Nepalese workers and their employer for suspected offenses related to illegal residence and employment violations.

The incident occurred at fiber optic construction sites in the Kitzingen area, where the nine Nepalese workers were discovered working without the necessary residence permits required for employment in Germany. Their permits, which were only valid for short-term tourist stays, were found to be inadequate for work.

The employer, under investigation for aiding and abetting illegal residence, smuggling foreign workers, withholding and misappropriating wages, and underpaying the minimum wage, is also suspected of paying his employees around 6.00 euros per hour instead of the legally prescribed minimum wage of 12.82 euros in Germany.

The Financial Control of Illegal Work (FKS) at the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt is conducting ongoing investigations into this case. The Public Prosecutor's Office of WΓΌrzburg has filed charges regarding the alleged illegal residence and other offenses against the individual workers and the employer.

The customs office has been particularly vigilant in the construction industry due to the prevalence of illegal work and employment violations. They focus on combating illegal work, where violations are often found in various forms of manipulation and commission.
