Synthetic Grass Surface and Outdoor Basketball Playing Area
Nordhorn, a city in Germany, has recently completed the redesign of its sports facilities in the Blumensiedlung area, with the official inauguration of the new basketball court taking place on June 18, 2025.
The city, in collaboration with VfL Weiße Elf Nordhorn, has transformed the southern sports surfaces, resulting in a new standard grass field and a modern small field with artificial turf. The basketball court, measuring approximately 130 square meters, is located in the Blumensiedlung area and is accessible from the Euregiastraße.
The redesign is part of the Stadtumbau Blumensiedlung project, which aims to modernise and future-proof the city's facilities. The city of Nordhorn contributed an own share of 50,000 euros, while two-thirds of the total budget for the redevelopment of the Südspielplatz was financed by the Stadtumbau funding program. VfL Weiße Elf Nordhorn also participated in the financing of the basketball court.
The construction of the basketball court was confirmed within the update of the Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK) in April 2023. The sports surfaces have been adapted to the current framework conditions and needs of the club.
To ensure the future-proofing of the facility, sand was used as the infill for the artificial turf to reduce the discharge of microplastics. This eco-friendly approach aligns with the city's commitment to sustainability.
The Fachbereich 6, Stadtumbau team with offices re.urban and urbanorbit, planning office ps+ from Osnabrück, and company Werner Lüske from Haselünne were involved in the implementation of the basketball court.
The Municipality of Nordhorn thanks all those involved for their contributions to the success of the project. For more information about the Stadtumbau-West Blumensiedlung project, please visit Stadtumbau-West Blumensiedlung.
