In the world of cycling, September promises an exciting month as some of the sport's top athletes prepare for the UCI Road World Championships in Rwanda.

Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar, who has dominated the season with wins at events such as the Tour de France, will be in attendance. His race plan includes participating in the individual time trial and road race events. Pogacar's time trial race is scheduled for September 21, which also happens to be his 27th birthday.

Pogacar will not be alone in his quest for a double World title. Primoz Roglic, also of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, will support Pogacar at the championships. In the road race, Pogacar will aim to defend his title as the reigning champion.

Meanwhile, Remco Evenepoel of Soudal-Quick-Step will also be competing. Fresh from his Olympic double title win in 2024, Evenepoel is considered the most obvious rival for both titles at the UCI Road World Championships, particularly in the absence of time trial juggernaut Filippo Ganna. Evenepoel was the last rider to secure a men's road race-time trial double title at the UCI Road World Championships, in Wollongong in 2022.

Other notable Slovenian cyclists participating in the UCI Road World Championships include Matej Mohorič and Jan Polanc.

Jonas Vingegaard, another top contender, will not be racing in Rwanda but will instead target the European Championships in France on October 5.
