Taiwan opens new educational support center for Thai students
The Taiwan-Thailand International Talent Circulation Base was officially opened in Bangkok over the weekend, marking a significant step towards strengthening relations between the two countries. The base, which is part of the Taiwanese Ministry of Education's action plan to attract more international students, offers a range of resources to help Thai students pursue higher education and gain job-ready skills in Taiwan.
Peter Lan, the Taiwanese Representative in Thailand, made the announcement at the grand opening. The base, located in Bangkok, aims to deepen bilateral cooperation and enhance hands-on training opportunities for Thai students in Taiwan.
In 2024, Taiwan hosted over 120,000 international students, with Thailand being the sixth-largest source of these students. The base offers academic consultations, scholarship information, language test guidance, and internship opportunities in Taiwan. It also provides Mandarin preparatory courses and academic exchange platforms.
The opening of the base follows the recent signing of an MoU on Technical and Vocational Education and Training Cooperation by the two governments. The collaboration in innovation and technology is a key focus of the cooperation, with the base supporting joint efforts between universities in Taiwan and Thailand through the International Industrial Talents Education Special Programmes.
The fair, held in conjunction with the base's opening, featured 39 leading universities and 12 enterprises. The event offered a unique opportunity for Thai students to explore various academic and career paths in Taiwan.
The cooperation is expected to build a strong foundation for future collaboration in innovation. In 2025, the Taiwan Higher Education Fair and Job Counselling was held in Bangkok, further highlighting the commitment of both countries to fostering educational and professional opportunities for Thai students in Taiwan.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance relations between Taiwan and Thailand. In June 2022, an MoU was signed to deepen bilateral cooperation, and the opening of the Talent Circulation Base is a testament to the successful implementation of this agreement.
While the representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand who signed the cooperation agreement on technical and vocational education and training between the governments of both countries on June 20 is not explicitly named in the available search results, the impact of this agreement is clear in the opening of the Talent Circulation Base.
The base offers a promising future for Thai students seeking to acquire job-ready skills in Taiwan and contribute to the innovation and technology sector. With its comprehensive resources and focus on academic exchange, the base is set to play a crucial role in the ongoing collaboration between Taiwan and Thailand.
