Tech Graduate from Patna Threatened by Employment Scam Network in Myanmar is Now Safe
In a significant development, Sachin Kumar, a B.Tech graduate from Patna, was rescued from captivity in Myanmar by the local police. The engineer had been allegedly held captive for over two months, following his lure to Myanmar with a false promise of a high-paying job.
Upon reaching Myanmar, Sachin Kumar was made a hostage and subjected to physical abuse. His captors tried to force him to participate in online scams, but their plans were foiled when authorities in Myanmar were approached through diplomatic channels regarding Sachin Kumar's case.
The organization involved in securing the release of Sachin Kumar was the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in coordination with diplomatic channels. The rescued engineer was taken from India via Kolkata to Bangkok, and then by road to Myanmar.
Sachin Kumar's family members were contacted and asked to pay a ransom amount for his release. However, the authorities involved ensured his safe return, and he was handed over to the local Indian embassy. Upon his return to India, Sachin Kumar reached Patna via Kolkata on Friday.
A special investigation team was constituted to investigate Sachin Kumar's captivity in Myanmar. So far, a person has been arrested in connection with the incident. The lure for Sachin Kumar was facilitated by a Nepali agent.
