Lao Heong Seafood Restaurant: A Gem in Bandar Menjalara

Lao Heong Seafood Restaurant, a beloved establishment in Kuala Lumpur, has expanded its presence with a new branch in Bandar Menjalara. This restaurant, known for its delectable dishes, has been a staple in the city since 1973, and its latest addition promises to continue the tradition of culinary excellence.

The menu at Lao Heong is identical to its original counterpart in Sentul, offering a variety of mouth-watering options. One standout dish is the clay pot curry fish head (RM45 for a small portion). This dish features a fish head swimming in a rich, aromatic curry, accompanied by tau foo pok, green beans, eggplant, okra, and more. The lemak sauce, made with carnation milk, offers a balanced flavour that avoids feeling heavy or cloying.

Another must-try is the fried chicken wings (RM5.50 per piece). These wings are crispy, moist, and burst with the salty, funky flavour of belacan. For those seeking something more adventurous, the Sichuan steamed stingray is a dish that has been on the menu for over a decade. Steamed with a thick, dark sauce that is spicy and savoury from chilli and fermented bean paste, this dish is a true taste sensation.

The "German" pork knuckle is another crowd favourite. This deep-fried knuckle is crisp and brown on the outside, with a sauce that resembles an overripe aioli, possibly due to the use of pineapple or ketchup.

Parking is easier at the Bandar Menjalara branch compared to the original Sentul location. Lao Heong Seafood Restaurant is open daily from 11am-2.30pm and 5-9.30pm.
