Teenager accused of federally prosecutable manslaughter in the deadly shooting of an onlooker in East Harlem
In the heart of East Harlem, a tragic incident unfolded on August 27, at the corner of East 109th Street and Madison Avenue. The shooting, caught on surveillance video, resulted in the death of an innocent bystander, 69-year-old Robin Wright.
According to the police, the suspect, 18-year-old Faisil McCants, was involved in the incident alongside two other individuals. The shooting occurred during an alleged robbery, with McCants allegedly firing 15 rounds from a machine gun.
Wright was walking down the sidewalk with her friend Juanita Arnold when the shooting took place. The suspects, in the aftermath of the robbery, reportedly stole a backpack containing marijuana from a man sleeping in a lawn chair.
As the suspects fled the scene, an 18-year-old man, Faisil McCants, is said to have chased after the victim, pulling out a gun and beginning to fire. Fifteen shell casings were recovered at the scene of the shooting.
Following his arrest on Thursday, McCants is expected to appear before a judge on Friday. He is facing federal charges, including murder, robbery, and criminal possession of a weapon.
