The emergency shelter at Gewerbering 29, which has been housing up to 250 people since December 2022, will temporarily close from October 1, 2025. This decision comes as part of a larger plan by the Regensburg District Office to dissolve emergency shelters in Hauzendorf, Obertraubling, and Bach am Danube.

Currently, the Gewerbering shelter houses 50 residents, hailing from Syria, Iran, and Ethiopia. The remaining residents will be distributed to the NUK Schierling on Seefeldstraße and decentralized accommodations in the district.

The Regensburg District Office has been successful in integrating asylum seekers into the regional labor market through a network of regional companies and representatives. Good contacts with the local economy, particularly with the personnel departments of companies, allow the district office to place people from the accommodations in suitable employment. Nineteen residents of the Gewerbering emergency shelter have received a protection status from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.

The peaceful coexistence between the community of Schierling and the emergency shelter at Gewerbering is noted. District Administrator Tanja Schweiger expresses gratitude to the neighborhood and community of Schierling for their considerate coexistence.

The Regensberg District Office is actively placing residents of the emergency shelters in suitable employment. This network of regional companies and representatives for the placement of auxiliary and skilled workers has developed since December 2022 in Schierling. The qualifications of the applicants and the specific needs of the companies are taken into account during the placement process.

The Regensburg District Office also has plans to organize housing close to workplaces for those who have found work in Schierling. This initiative is a part of the Integration Management's efforts to facilitate the integration of asylum seekers into the community.

Andreas Brühl, the person appointed as district administrator of the Regensburg district council on September 13, 2023, will oversee these changes. The dissolution of emergency shelters in Hauzendorf, Obertraubling, and Bach am Danube, as well as the temporary closure of the Gewerbering emergency shelter, are steps towards a more sustainable integration strategy for the district.
