Canadian Tennis Star Felix Auger-Aliassime Reaches U.S. Open Semifinals, Only to be Defeated by World No. 1 Jannik Sinner

Montreal native Felix Auger-Aliassime made history at the U.S. Open in 2025, reaching the semifinals for the second time in his Grand Slam career. However, his journey ended in a four-set loss against the world No. 1, Jannik Sinner.

The U.S. Open semifinals of 2025 marked a significant milestone for Auger-Aliassime as it was his first encounter with Sinner in a Grand Slam tournament. In the lead-up to the match, Auger-Aliassime defeated eighth-seeded Alex de Minaur, third-seeded Alexander Zverev, and No. 15 seed Andrey Rublev.

Despite these impressive victories, Auger-Aliassime could not maintain his form against Sinner. The Italian tennis star clinched the match, handing Auger-Aliassime his first defeat in the U.S. Open semifinals.

Prior to the U.S. Open, Auger-Aliassime had withdrawn from Canada's Davis Cup tie, a World Group I tie, due to fatigue. No substitute player was announced for the match, which was scheduled to take place on September 12 and 13 in Halifax, with Vasek Pospisil stepping in as the substitute for the tie that followed on the same dates.

The report about Auger-Aliassime's performance at the U.S. Open semifinals was published on September 6, 2025. Despite the defeat, Auger-Aliassime's semifinal appearance at the U.S. Open marked his first since 2021, demonstrating his consistent growth and improvement in the tennis world.

As Auger-Aliassime continues to push his boundaries and challenge top-ranked players, fans eagerly await his next Grand Slam appearance and the opportunity to witness his ongoing tennis journey.
