U.S. Open 2025: A Riveting Third Round

The U.S. Open 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting tournament, with several thrilling matches unfolding in the third round.

In one of the most anticipated encounters, Ekaterina Alexandrova will face Laura Siegemund in the round of 16. Both players have been in fine form, and this promises to be a closely contested match.

Naomi Osaka overcame a mid-match wobble to secure her place in the fourth round. In a nail-biting encounter against Daria Kasatkina, Osaka emerged victorious with a score of 6-0 4-6 6-3. This sets up a rematch with Coco Gauff, six years after their first meeting at Flushing Meadows. In 2019, Osaka routed a tearful Gauff 6-3 6-0 at the U.S. Open.

Gauff, meanwhile, dismissed Poland's Magdalena Frech with a commanding 6-3 6-1 victory. This win marks Osaka and Gauff's fourth-round encounter as one of the most highly anticipated matches of the tournament.

Iga Swiatek also had a tough battle, coming back from being 5-1 down in the opening set. She saved four set points and went on to win the match against Anna Kalinskaya with a score of 7-6(2) 6-4. Swiatek's victory draws her level with defending champion and world number one Aryna Sabalenka.

Elsewhere, Felix Auger-Aliassime rallied from a set down to defeat Alexander Zverev with a score of 4-6 7-6(7) 6-4 6-4. Jannik Sinner also had a tough fight, surrendering the opening set but going on to win against Denis Shapovalov with a score of 5-7 6-4 6-3 6-3. Sinner's victory extends his unbeaten run at hardcourt Grand Slams to 24 matches.

Sadly, several players had to withdraw from the tournament. Italy's Flavio Cobolli, Daniel Altmaier, and Poland's Kamil Majchrzak all withdrew on Saturday. There have been nine retirements in the singles before the end of the third round, including three on Saturday.

In the doubles draw, 45-year-old Venus Williams and Canada's Leylah Fernandez won their match against Ulrikke Eikeri and Eri Hozumi with a score of 7-6(1) 6-1.

The U.S. Open 2025 continues to deliver exciting matches, with many more to come in the later rounds. Stay tuned for updates!
