US Open 2025: First-Round Results and Second-Round Matchups
The US Open 2025 is underway, and several exciting matchups have already taken place in the first round. Here's a roundup of some of the key results and second-round matchups.
In the women's singles, Janice Tjen, the first Indonesian to play in the main draw of a Grand Slam singles event for 21 years, made a memorable debut by defeating Veronika Kudermetova, the 24th seed, with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Tjen will face Britain's Emma Raducanu in the second round, after Raducanu won her match against Ena Shibahara with a score of 6-1, 6-2.
Raducanu, the former US Open champion, is not the only high-profile player advancing to the second round. Aryna Sabalenka, the current world number one, won her match against Rebeka Masarova with a score of 7-5, 6-1. Sabalenka will face unseeded Russian Polina Kudermetova in the second round.

American Sebastian Korda, the sixth seed, progressed with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Peruvian qualifier Ignacio Buse. Daniil Medvedev, the 13th seed, opens his US Open campaign against France's Benjamin Bonzi.
Italy's 32nd seed Luciano Darderi eliminated Australia's Rinky Hijikata with a score of 6-2, 6-1, 6-2. Alexandra Eala of the Philippines also advanced after defeating Denmark's 14th-seeded Clara Tauson in three sets with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (13/11).
