Djokovic triumphs over Struff in the US Open competition - Tennis star Struff experiences defeat in his US Open match against Djokovic.
The US Open, the Grand Slam tennis tournament currently being held in New York, witnessed an exciting development as Novak Djokovic secured a place in the semifinals. The Serbian tennis star, aiming for his 25th Grand Slam title, will face American Taylor Fritz in his quest for the semifinals.
In the round of 16 match, Djokovic overcame Jan-Lennard Struff, who was seeking his first quarterfinal appearance at one of the four major tournaments. The match, played at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in front of approximately 24,000 spectators, ended with a score of 3-6, 3-6, 2-6 in favour of Djokovic.
Struff's defeat marks the end of the participation of initial six German tennis players in the US Open singles competitions for men. On the other hand, Taylor Fritz, an American tennis player, was eliminated in the third round by Alexander Zverev, who surprisingly lost in the following round.
During the match against Struff, Djokovic experienced physical discomfort and called for the physiotherapist after winning the first and second sets. Despite this, he managed to secure his quarterfinal berth. If successful in the US Open, Djokovic would become the sole record holder for most Grand Slam titles, surpassing Margaret Court.
Meanwhile, none of the initial six German tennis players remain in the singles competitions for women at the US Open. The tournament continues to unfold with exciting matches and the pursuit of tennis history.
