Unveiling Disappointing Moments

Money, they say, is the root of all evil. And in a city built on gambling, it's not hard to see how things can quickly spiral out of control. A popular Reddit thread is buzzing with people revealing their most disappointing experiences in Sin City. Fasten your seatbelts and join us on a wild ride; share your thoughts at David.Hookstead@our site:

  • My ex-girlfriend tricked me into going to Vegas with her best friend. She deliberately planned this meeting as her desperate attempt to win back the friend who had friend-zoned her years ago. The trip turned into a night of drunken chaos, with my ex hitting on her friend nonstop. When I asked her to call it quits, she locked me out of our hotel room at 3AM—a room that was under her name only, which left me stranded until 10AM without a phone, wallet, or keys. The real low point? I ended up staying with her for another year.
  • In 2005, I got married in Vegas only to find out my new wife was having an affair with my long-time best friend within a year. On the bright side, I found the love of my life 12 years later.
  • I embarrassed myself by soiling myself at the M&M store at 1PM and ending up hiding in a corner. An older woman gave me a disapproving glare.
  • After a night of heavy drinking, I woke up behind Mandalay Bay with no memory of what happened, and no idea where I was.
  • I participated in an overpriced food tour and ended up watching the guide beg for scraps of food on each stop.
  • I spent a night at Hooters and can't recall if I even slept in my room.
  • A trip to see David Copperfield left me cringing at the second-hand embarrassment.
  • After eating a deep-fried Oreo at 4AM on Fremont Street, a homeless man approached me for a cigarette. I gave him the rest of my pack.
  • I walked from Hard Rock to Cosmo in 110-degree weather wearing a silk Hawaiian shirt.
  • I was disappointed by the Postcard From Earth exhibit, a waste of money that lectured me about the environment while vacationing in one of the most wasteful cities in the world.
  • In 2010, I went shooting guns off-strip and waited for 2.5 hours for my turn. I spent less than 15 seconds with the machine gun.
  • Playing golf with OJ Simpson was both terrifying and disappointing.
  • I wore heels during one of my trips, which turned out to be a terrible decision.
  • The Pawn Stars storefront was underwhelming, and I didn't even see anyone from the show.
  • After staying at Mandalay Bay post-Covid, I was devastated to learn that the buffet was gone.
  • My last two trips home resulted in dealing with Covid or some other illness.
  • I once stayed at Hooters as a hotel, and it was a massive disappointment compared to our previous fun times there.
  • I found Criss Angel's show to be a dated relic of the past, while the Blue Man Group show left me underwhelmed, as it seemed unchanged compared to when I saw it 10 years prior.
  • Katy Perry's residency at RW was the worst show I've ever attended.
  • That business card-giving amigo... total trash when I opened the door. 🤮
  • Omnia on a Saturday night was a sardine-like experience with overpriced drinks and a lousy crowd. I won't be back there.

Apparently, it's possible to have a horrible time in Sin City. Personally, I can't think of any truly abysmal experiences, but I do remember the time I reserved a cabana at a major resort, only to find dried vomit in the corner. That was definitely a miss. I had a much better time the previous year at the Mirage. As for my worst experience, I would say it pales in comparison to those I've read about.

As a general rule, be wary of women you don't know, avoid getting intoxicated to the point of losing control, and don't gamble more than you're willing to lose. Following these simple guidelines will surely help you avoid many potential pitfalls in Las Vegas.
