Terrorist Suspect Arrested in Kamchatka on Phone-Related Charges
In a bizarre turn of events, a young man from Sоcnovka in Kamchatka Krai has been accused of causing panic and disruption in several educational institutions over three days (February 18-20).
The individual made repeated calls to the emergency services 112, threatening to detonate explosive devices in schools. As a result, teams consisting of firefighters, police, FSB, and Rosgvardiya were dispatched to the respective educational institutions, causing a significant disturbance.
School events for the February 23 holiday were cancelled in Nikolaevka village due to these threats, and the school itself declared unplanned holidays twice. The young man's actions also led to the evacuation of students from the 3rd and 9th schools in Elizovo city, sending them out onto the streets.
It appears that the young man found amusement in causing a panic with his prank, as he personally observed special service employees running around schools following his instructions. However, the person arrested in connection with these false reports of terrorism has not been specified.
The young man now faces a fine of 500,000 to 700,000 rubles or imprisonment for three to five years, charged with "knowingly false reporting of an act of terrorism". Law enforcement spent time searching for non-existent bombs in educational institutions, a reminder of the serious consequences such pranks can have on public safety.
