Tesla Introduces Long Range Model Y in China

Tesla has expanded its Model Y lineup with the introduction of the Model Y Long Range (Model Y L) in China. The new model, which boasts a longer wheelbase and increased dimensions, is now available for order in the country.

The Model Y L measures 4.98 meters in length, an 18-centimeter increase compared to the current Model Y. It also features a longer wheelbase of 3.04 meters, providing more interior space. The extended body is particularly noticeable from the side, resembling the known Model Y but with a more elongated profile.

The Model Y L accommodates three rows of seats, offering a total of six places. It is currently available in China in one all-wheel-drive version.

The new model is priced at approximately 339,000 Renminbi, which is about 8.5% more than the regular Model Y with the same drive in China. It can be ordered in the same colours as the regular version, with a standard black delivery option available.

While deliveries of the Model Y L in China are expected to begin in September, no specific announcement has been made about the market launch of the Model Y L in the West. However, early rumors suggest that the Model Y L will be launched in Europe as well. Software hints discovered in June indicate that Tesla plans to offer the Model Y L globally.

The Model Y L places more emphasis on comfort, featuring extended thigh support, a larger 16-inch touchscreen, wireless charging for electronics at up to 50 watts, heated and cooled second-row seats, and 19 speakers for music distribution throughout the vehicle.

Tesla plans to introduce the six-seat Model Y version also in European markets soon, pending regulatory approval for features like Full Self-Driving (FSD). Specific other countries besides China and Europe have not been explicitly confirmed yet.

It's worth noting that a light interior package is planned as an option for the Tesla Model Y L, but is not yet available. The Model Y L is currently only available with 19-inch wheels.

Rumours from earlier this year suggested that the Model Y L would only be sold on the Chinese market, but Tesla plans to offer it worldwide later on. The Model Y L can now cover 715 kilometers of range per charge with an 82 kWh battery, which is about 5% less than the Model Y LR AWD with the same battery and drive.

The Model Y L is the latest addition to Tesla's growing lineup of electric vehicles, and its introduction in China marks an exciting development for the company and its customers in the region.
