Tesla Cybertruck Owner Questions $2,150 Windshield Repair Bill

A Cybertruck owner from Arizona, who goes by the username "bg002h" on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, is questioning a $2,150 repair bill from Tesla for a simple rubber seal replacement around his Cybertruck's windshield.

The owner took his truck in for service due to a persistent wind noise issue and small, uneven gaps in the rubber seal around the windshield. According to the service note from Tesla, the customer mentioned the exterior trim and the rubber seal around the windshield is uneven, and they are unsure if the issue is due to annual replacement or Tesla's glue not working properly.

Tesla quoted $2,150 to replace the rubber seal, with the majority of the cost being for parts, specifically a $1,900 replacement "windshield assembly." The total parts cost is $2,017.00, which includes a windshield assembly, a 10 milliliter bottle of Betaprime, and a 400 milliliter bottle of Betaseal Express sealant. Labor hours for the windshield assembly replacement are 2.10 hours, with a cost of $133.

The owner, a radiologist by profession, is unsure if Tesla is charging him $1,900 because the entire windshield needs to be replaced or if it's just the cost of assembling the windshield. He shared his story and pictures of the crooked rubber seal and the repair estimate on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.

If a repair is not covered under warranty and is found to be a non-warranty issue, Tesla may bill the owner for the diagnosis. However, if a repair is covered under warranty, Tesla will perform the repair without charging the owner.

For general repair tips, it's recommended to: 1. Assess the damage: Determine if the damage is only cosmetic or if the windshield is cracked. 2. Contact Tesla: Request a quote directly through the Tesla website or app. 3. Consult specialist shops: If you don't want to repair at a Tesla service center, find certified Tesla repair shops in your area. 4. Compare costs: Obtain estimates from various providers to find the best prices.

Keep in mind that the Cybertruck is not yet officially on the market, which means specific information and prices may not be available. It's always a good idea to ask for detailed cost estimates when scheduling a service appointment with Tesla.
