Tesla to Unveil New Megapack Model at "Las Megas" Extravaganza in Sin City (Las Vegas)
Tesla Strengthens Leadership in Utility-Scale Energy Storage with Q2 Deployment and "Las Megas" Event
Tesla is making waves in the utility-scale energy storage sector, with a record-breaking Q2 deployment of 9.4 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy storage. This figure, revealed on September 8 at the Tesla-hosted "Las Megas" event in The Boring Company tunnels in Las Vegas, represents a sharp increase compared to the 7.6 GWh deployed in Q1.
The event, primarily focused on Tesla's energy storage business, showcased the company's next-generation Megapack product. The updated Megapack platform, unveiled at the event, is expected to offer higher capacity, improved efficiency, and more competitive cost-per-kilowatt-hour metrics.
The Megapack 2XL, Tesla's current flagship grid-scale storage product, integrates advanced thermal management and safety features. It also boasts sophisticated power electronics and software for seamless grid integration with renewable energy sources. Each Megapack 2XL unit can store more than 3.9 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy and deliver up to 1.9 megawatts (MW) of power, making it ideal for utility projects and large commercial applications.
The modular design of the Megapack 2XL allows energy providers to scale projects quickly, contributing to Tesla's pace for another record year in energy storage deployments. In fact, Tesla Energy revenues topped $3.4 billion in Q2 2025, up more than 30% year-over-year.
The "Las Megas" keynote also unveiled an updated Megapack platform, which is expected to further strengthen Tesla's leadership in utility-scale energy storage. The utility-scale energy storage sector is projected to rival or exceed Tesla's automotive business in the long run, making this a strategic move for the company.
The Tesla Energy division has been one of the company's fastest-growing segments over the past two years, and it is now a significant contributor to the company's overall profitability. The success of Tesla's energy storage business is a testament to the company's commitment to sustainable energy solutions and its ability to innovate in the rapidly evolving renewable energy market.
